‎Madlanga Commission Witness Pressed Over Laptop ‘Proof’ Claim

‎The chairperson focused on a specific media interview in which Adams had claimed that he had evidence showing that his laptop problems were not something he had invented for the Commission. However, the chairperson argued that the evidence Adams referred to did not actually prove that his laptop had malfunctioned continuously from October 2025 until approximately three months before his testimony.

‎Adams explained that his laptop had repeatedly frozen, rejected passwords and prevented him from accessing his emails. He maintained that the problems had occurred on numerous occasions and could potentially be confirmed by people working at Parliament.
‎
‎The chairperson, however, drew a distinction between the general claim of laptop problems and the specific “proof” Adams said he had given to the media. According to the chairperson, the only concrete incident Adams could identify in the interview involved him using another parliamentarian’s laptop.
‎
‎Adams resisted the suggestion that he had been untruthful. He said the purpose of the media statement was to demonstrate that his laptop problems had occurred before the Madlanga Commission and that he had not fabricated the story.
‎
‎The exchange also turned to emails Adams had referred to as evidence. He clarified that these emails concerned disputes with Parliament over correspondence relating to a secretary’s salary increase and the PKTT. Adams acknowledged that those emails did not themselves prove that his laptop had malfunctioned.

‎The chairperson ultimately told Adams that, based on the media interview played before the Commission, there was no proof presented to the media demonstrating that the laptop had malfunctioned throughout the period Adams had claimed.
‎
‎Adams nevertheless maintained that he had other material, including a transcript of an Ad Hoc Committee interaction concerning his laptop. He argued that, in his understanding, the transcript constituted evidence, although he accepted that the chairperson had a different legal interpretation.
