TRUMP EXTENDS AGOA: SOUTH AFRICA GETS ANOTHER LIFELINE FOR PREFERENTIAL US TRADE

‎The United States has extended the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), providing continued preferential trade access for eligible African countries, including South Africa.

‎The move comes after months of uncertainty and previous threats that South Africa could be removed from the programme amid growing tensions between Washington and Pretoria.

‎US President Donald Trump has now signed legislation extending AGOA into law, offering businesses and exporters additional certainty as they navigate the future of US-Africa trade relations.

‎AGOA provides qualifying African countries with preferential access to the US market for thousands of products. South Africa has been one of the programme’s major beneficiaries, with its exporters relying on access to the lucrative American market.
